April 2024 at Showcase

As ever a new month brings with it a cinematic feast for the senses and April is no different. So without ado let’s take a peek at what April is going to bring to Showcase Cinemas    

 

Friday April 5

The First Omen 

Director: Arkasha Stevenson (Legion (2017))

Starring: Nell Tiger Free, Ralph Ineson, Bill Nighy, Sônia Braga

Serving as a prequel to the 1976 iconic Omen, The First Omen tells the story of a young American woman who is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, where she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate. 

 

Monkey Man

Director: Dev Patel

Starring: Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash

An anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless.

 

Friday April 12

Back to Black 

Director: Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy (2009), Fifty Shades of Grey (2019))

Starring: Marisa Abela, Eddie Marsan

The biographical film Back to Black tells the story of life and career of the iconic singer, Amy Winehouse, beginning with her early days in the early 2000s as a North London jazz musician and culminating in her rise to fame as a Grammy-winning singer with hit songs like ‘Rehab’.

 

Civil War 

Director: Alex Garland (Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018))

Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons

Written by director Alex Garland, his new feature film is set in the near future, where a journalist (Dunst – Spider-Man (2002)) travels across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation, between the American government and the separatist "Western Forces" led by Texas and California.

 

Friday April 19

Abigail

Directors: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett (Scream (2002))

Starring: Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Giancarlo Esposito

The monster horror film focuses on a group of kidnappers who capture and then must watch over Abigail, the daughter of the most powerful underworld figure for the $50 million ransom. This is until they get more than what they bargain, for Abigail reveals her true nature as a vampire child, hunting them down one by one.

 

Love Lies Bleeding  

Director: Rose Glass (Saint Maud (2019))

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Katy M O'Brian

Lou (Kristen Stewart) is a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder who's heading to Las Vegas to pursue her dream. Their love soon leads to violence as they get pulled deep into the web of Lou's criminal family.

Challengers

Director: Luca Guagadino (A Bigger Splash (2015), Suspiria (2018))

Starring: Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, Mike Faist

 The romantic tennis film, Challengers, follows a former top tennis star, Tashi (Zendaya) who is married to a former champion on a losing streak. Her strategy for her husband's redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against his former best friend and Tashi's former boyfriend.
