Roll up, roll up for the greatest shows on Earth! 2024 is going to be a bumper year for cinema here at Showcase. Deadpool, The Joker, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Gladiator, The Ghostbusters team are just some of the favourites returning to our screens. Here is what the year ahead looks like at Showcase Cinemas. As always, dates are subject to change.


1: Dune: Part Two
Directed by Denis Villeneuve; starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem

Sometimes the term ‘all-star cast’ is over used and not often delivered but with his second instalment in the Dune universe with Dune: Part II, Denis Villeneuve (Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017)) delivers and then some. The sequel sees Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) continuing his journey, a journey where he is reunited with Chani (Zendaya) and the Freman. The young man is seeking revenge against those who destroyed his family and trying to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family decide to leave Summerville, Oklahoma and go back to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – and help the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level! 12: Civil War

Written by director Alex Garland (Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018)), his new feature film is set in the near future, where a journalist (Dunst – Spider-Man (2002)) travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation, between the American government and the separatist "Western Forces" led by Texas and California.

12: Back to Black
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson; starring: Marisa Abela, Eddie Marsan

The biographical film, from the director of Fifty Shades of Grey (2019), Back to Black tells the story of life and career of the iconic singer, Amy Winehouse, beginning with her early days in the early 2000s as a North London jazz musician and culminating in her rise to fame as a Grammy-winning singer with hit songs like ‘Rehab’.

19: Butterfly Tale

2: The Fall Guy
Directed by David Leitch; Starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Stephanie Hsu

Colt Seavers, played by Ryan Gosling, is a battered and past-his-prime stuntman, finds himself working on a film set with the famous star for whom he doubled long ago. When the star goes missing, and the film (which is being directed by Colt's ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt), is in danger of being shut down, he volunteers to investigate the disappearance and find the missing actor.

17: IF
Directed by John Krasinski; Starring Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski ,Cailey Fleming, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. , Steve Carell

John Krasinski (A Quiet Place (2017)) directs the tale of a young girl named Bea gains the ability to see people's imaginary friends, referred to as "IFs" for short, who have been abandoned by the kids they helped. Bea then discovers that her neighbour, The Man Upstairs (played by Ryan Reynolds), has the same ability. Keep your ears alert to the vocal talents of some greats including Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. , Steve Carell

24: The Garfield Movie

A modern re-imagining of the beloved character, The Crow, based on the original graphic novel by James O'Barr.

14: Bad Boys 4

14: Inside Out 2

Inside Out universe returns with Amy Poehler once again lending her vocal talents as Joy and Maya Hawkew as a new emotion, anxiety. With Inside Out 2, Riley is now a teenager and as we all know it is a time of our lives when emotions run riot! When the teaser trailer was released it became the most watched trailer ever, with a staggering 157 million views across the first twenty four hours.

19: Twisters

A standalone sequel to the 1996 film of epic tornadoes Twister, Lee Isaac Chung’s update, Twisters, see’s Tyler Owens aka ‘the Tornado Wrangler’, played by Top Gun: Maverick’s (2022) Glenn Powell and former storm chaser, Daisy Edgar Jones, now safely ensconced in New York researching weather patterns literally pulling together to save their lives in the eye of multiple storms.

26: Deadpool & Wolverine
Directed by Shawn Levy; Starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Owen Wilson, Tom Hiddleston

By the time you read this the first teaser trailer has dropped and dropped to huge acclaim by fans, who watched it some 365 million times!
We are sure we speak on behalf of every Showcase when we say we are literally salivating to see the two anarchic superheroes Deadpool and Wolverine on screen together. Friends off-screen, Reynolds and Jackman have been bantering about this union for years so to finally see it happening is a thrill!

2: Trap

9: Borderlands
Directed by Eli Roth; Starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt

Based on the video game of the same name, Borderlands tells the story of Lilith (Cate Blanchett) an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, who reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful S.O.B., Atlas, played by Edgar Ramirez.
Eli Roth, (you may recognise Roth as the Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009)), who has thrilled us with Cabin Fever (2001), Hostel (2005) and The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018), has written and directed Borderlands, so our top tip is: expect the unexpected!

30: Kraven the Hunter
Directed by J. C. Chandor; Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola

Based on the Marvel Comics character of the name, Kraven the Hunter is directed by J. C. Chandor (Margin Call (2011), All Is Lost (2013), A Most Violent Year (2014)) who is making a welcome return to our screens after a five year gap since 2019’s Triple Frontier. The film tells the story of Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who sets out on a mission to prove himself as the greatest hunter in the world.


6: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Directed by Tim Burton; Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Catherine O’Hara

It’s showtime! Yes, Tim Burton is back with a sequel to his 1988 hit Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice stars Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) in the original film, who also returns, as does Michael Keaton is set to reprise his iconic role of Beetlejuice!

13: Speak No Evil
Directed by James Watkins; Starring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scott McNairy, Kris Hitchen

20: Wolfs
Directed by Jon Watts; Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Austin Abrams, Amy Ryan

George Clooney and Brad Pitt return to our screens together again after the three Ocean films with Wolfs, the story of two professional fixers who are hired for the same job.
Jon Watts fresh from the box-office hits Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) is the director and Clooney and Pitt produce.

27: Saw XI

4: Joker: Folie à Deux
Directed by Todd Phillips; Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Breanda Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan, Leigh Gill, Sharon Washington

Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar winning role of Arthur Fleck / Joker for the sequel, again helmed by Todd Phillips. Starring alongside Phoenix is Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist initially assigned to treat Arthur; her curiosity eventually turns to obsession and she forms a deadly romantic relationship with him.

11: Transformers One
Directed by Josh Cooley; Starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Laurence Fishburne, Keegan Michael Key, Jon Hamm

Optimus Prime and Megatron go from brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies on their home planet of Cybertron. Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry play younger versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Certainly producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was an enthusiastic as us when he heard Chris Hemsworth, saying “When we first listen to Chris Hemsworth's voice, you're like, 'God, is he gonna be a good Optimus!”

8: Paddington in Peru
Directed by Dougal Wilson; Starring Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Emily Mortimer, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Stauton.

Paddington and his adopted family – the Browns – decide to visit his aunt Lucy in Peru, but circumstances lead them towards misadventures in the Amazon rainforest and mountains of Peru.
Written by Paul King, the director of the previous two Paddington big screen cinematic adventures and produced by David Heyman, Dougal Wilson makes his directorial feature film debut Paddington in Peru.

29: Wicked

An unlikely friendship emerges between Elphaba and Glinda, two clashing witches in the magical land of Oz. Elphaba is wrongfully cast as a wicked witch as she seeks to expose the fraudulent, corrupt Wizard who rules the land.

This is one we have all been waiting for, the hit stage musical Wicked finally hits out big screens in November – what an end to the year!


13: Karate Kid
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle; Starring Ben Wang, Ralph Macchio, Jackie Chan

After a worldwide casting call, Ben Wang has won the coveted starring role in the 2024 remake of Karate Kid and be prepared to be wowed. Not only is Wang also fluent in Mandarin he is a martial arts experts, skilled in Karate, Wing Chun/Kung Fu, Gumdo, Kempo and Taekwando.

13: Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
Directed by Kenji Kamiyama; Starring Brian Cox, Miranda Otto, Shaun Dooley

20: Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Directed by Jeff Fowler; Starring Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, James Marsden

20: Mufasa: The Lion King
Directed by Barry Jenkins; Starring Aaron Pierre, Seth Rogan, Kelviun Harrison Jr.

Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored. Oscar winner, Barry Jenkins (Moonlight (2016)) directs the musical live adaptation, a prequel to the hit Disney Oscar animation film.
