Not bad for a film with a director the studio didn’t want - Francis Ford Coppola; with a star who was believed to be all washed up - Marlon Brando; and a supporting cast of then virtually unknown actors - Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, James Cann, Talia Shire and John Cazale.
