January

Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman is unrecognisable as the iconic wartime Prime Minister, Winston Churchill in Joe Wright's Darkest Hour. It is May 1940 and Nazi Germany is rampant, Europe is on the brink of defeat and calls are intensifying for Churchill to make peace with Adolf Hitler.  

Darkest Hour is at Showcase on January 12

 

Coco

Pixar take a trip into the afterlife with their latest animated adventure, Coco. 12 year-old Miguel is banned from listening to music. Desperate to play and listen to the guitar, he steals a six string from his dead movie star idol, Ernesto De La Cruz. His theft sees him transported to the Land of the Dead, from which he must escape by dawn.

Coco is at Showcase on January 19, with advance screenings on January 13 and 14

 

Downsizing

After taking cinema audiences on three road trips - About Schmidt, Sideways and Nebraska - Alexander Payne returns to the satire of Election with his latest film, Downsizing. Leisureland is the potential new home of husband and wife, Paul and Audrey Safranek (Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig), who in desperate need of a cash injection decide to take up an offer to downsize to 5 inches tall to help in the overcrowding of the world.

Downsizing is at Showcase on January 24

Fifty Shades Freed

Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) return to the screen as Mr. and Mrs. Grey in the third instalment of the Fifty Shades trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed. In the recent trailer Christian is heard to say "you insist to defy me, Mrs. Grey. What should I do about it?" The answer we are sure will be revealed!

Black Panther

Ryan Coogler (Creed) directs Black Panther, the story of an African king and superhero. Starring as Stan Lee's Marvel hero is Chadwick Boseman, alongside Michael B. Jordan, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis and Angela Bassett.

Black Panther is out at Showcase on February 13

 

The Shape of Water

Guillermo del Toro returns with the much anticipated The Shape of Water. Sally Hawkins plays a mute cleaning lady who falls for longtime del Toro collaborator, Doug Jones who plays an amphibian man in this lavish romantic fantasy, created by one of cinema’s true originals.

Tomb Raider

Acclaimed actress Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Directed by Norwegian Roar Uthang, the film takes us back to Lara's first tomb raiding mission and stays closer to the video game than its 2001 predecessor. Also starring Nick Frost, Dominic West and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Tomb Raider is at Showcase on March 16

 

Pacific Rim: Uprising

Colossal sea monsters Hakuja, Raijin and Shrikethorn rampage through MegaTokyo in 2035. John Boyega and Scott Eastwood are among the cast on hand to combat them in Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 Pacific Rim.

Ready Player One

Wade Watts (played by Tye Sheridan) escapes the tough life of living in the Stacks in 2045 when he dons a VR rig and enters the Oasis, a digital world where he is known as Parzival. Steven Spielberg directs Ernest Cline's bestselling novel, which also stars regular Spielberg collaborator, Oscar winner Mark Rylance.
