Mortuary assistant Erich is trying to get his daughter Julia on the phone—without success. Attentively, he drives around the small town until he spots Julia and her friends on a girls‘ night out. In order to reestablish a closer relationship with his daughter so as to help her understand the true meaning of life, he comes up with the idea to convey his world view to her. The film tells the story of a man, whose word view, narrow-mindedness and selfishness lead him into disaster.

As Dr John says in the film, ‘If the musicians ain’t got the chance to live, then what chance has the music got?’ Filmed over four years, this film pays homage to the musicians who courageously returned to their hometown of New Orleans after the devastation following Hurricane Katrina.

Donald is a salt-of-the-earth Yorkshire-man. When his billionaire boss dies, Donald is tasked with destroying evidence of his beautiful mistress, Amber. Despite trying to keep Amber at arm’s length, Donald has to collude with her to delete a video that would implicate his boss and mean certain death for Amber. He embarks on a journey that leads him face-to-face with Amber’s notorious gangster cousin.

High in the hills, among the last remnants of Hollywood’s golden age, Tod, and his sister Lani, live a breezy and charmed life in the sprawling mansion of their grandmother’s, Judy, a former movie star now relegated to hosting a dying home shopping show. Tod’s carefree and narcissistic existence takes a dark turn when a not so accidental event spirals his life into a tale of uncompromising amorality.

NEW AGE, OLDE ENGLISH - On a strange night in a strange world, a hitchhiker is picked up by a well-spoken man. It is only once the hitcher is in the car and the two are moving at high speeds that darkly comedic yet terrifying revelations begin to surface. 

MY PRETTY PONY - An elderly man, nearing death, gives his young grandson an unusual gift and tells him about the transient nature of time. 

JONAH (plus live Q&A wiith Director, Michal Maschina) - Austria, 2015. It's pitch dark in the night and a lorry is trying to reach the Austrian border. A group of Syrian refugees is hidden in its interior. A girl trembles in the dark while a woman tries to sooth her narrating a story. They are both waiting to get into Austria. 

WHEN I'LL BE GONE - Ariane’s grandmother is dead and her brother Simon just broke up with his longtime girlfriend. Putting their differences aside, the grief stricken brother and sister embark on a road trip to their grandmother’s funeral.

CUL-DE-SAC (Plus live Q&A with Director, Nick Flugge) - A private detective has a routine stake-out ruined by his sister intent on fixing his life.

THE SLED - A sled brings together two boys from different countries and cultures and carries them through the winter woods of the Italian mountains, far away from their parents' prejudices and isolation. Two children, one sled and a lasting friendship.

JACK AND JILL - Two roving tough girls wreak small-town havoc and seek redemption.

PREGNANT PAUSE - Pee. Wait. Panic. Steph is in a happy, long-term relationship, but now she might be pregnant she has no idea what she wants.

 

BIKINI BLUE – 1.45pm - plus live Q&A with Director, Jarek Marszewski

A tale of love and madness in the times of Cold War. In 1953, a quarter of a million Poles - traumatised by war and politics - find shelter and start a new life in Britain. For most of them it meant a journey to an unknown planet. Bikini Blue is a tale about the curse of a double life. Dora, a young English woman, and Eryk a Polish exile in Britain, are a married couple. Their marriage is torn by Eryk’s mental sickness and his rebounding past that he concealed from his wife.

This feature presentation includes the short animations MONEY TIME and I AM DYSLEXIC.

 

A PACT AMONG ANGELS – 4pm - plus live Q&A wtth Abstrat Iterations II Director, Sabrina Schmid

Adrien, a solitary, middle-aged man, finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and is kidnapped by two brothers age 14 and 18 who have gotten themselves into big trouble. This starts the bizarre trio on a crazy journey that reveals each person’s true character. Linked by a common destiny, these three fragile individuals must overcome their prejudices and work together to survive.

This feature presentation includes the experimental shorts ABSTRACT ITERATIONS II and MICROSCOPIA.

 

AMERICAN SATAN – 6.15pm

A young rock band, half from England and half from the United States, drop out of college and move to the Sunset Strip to chase their dreams. Living in a van, their passion and talent exceed their means to survive. An enigmatic stranger sees their true potential and emotionally manipulates them during a time of weakness. Caught in the middle of a Faustian deal, their music and controversial altercations end up influencing society beyond anything they imagined, but can they take back control of their destiny before it’s too late?

After a quarrel with his wife, Adam spends time with his mistress at the gym. Later, as he runs 20 kilometers to get home, he takes a phone call. The owner of a TV station promotes him to evening news editor. Adam’s imagination conjures up a vision of a brilliant career. He doesn’t suspect his world will soon collapse… Now he has 90 minutes to patch up his life.
