Film fans have just weeks to wait until they are enjoying the latest movies in the height of luxury and comfort with the announcement that Derby’s eagerly-awaited Showcase Cinema de Lux will open on Friday, May 16.
U.S.-based National Amusements, which owns and operates the Showcase brand, is ushering in a new era of high-end cinema entertainment that offers guests more than just a movie.
Patrons will be able to enjoy live entertainment, dining, and live, high-definition sports broadcasting, as well as other forms of entertainment. The first of its kind in the UK, the cinema is located at the Westfield Derby shopping centre.
Showcase Cinema de Lux is designed to be Derby’s community entertainment destination, offering innovative programming for every demographic, from children and families, to baby boomers and seniors. National Amusements is transforming the movie-going experience with this unique concept.

The cinema will have over 2200 seats in 12 auditoria offering the comfort of rocking recliner seats, and in our Directors’ Halls, guests will enjoy relaxing in custom-designed Ultra Leather love-seats with moveable armrests. It will also boast the latest sound and screen technology, including digital 3D presentation, a concierge service and reserved seating throughout the cinema.
Guests can also enjoy a full service restaurant and the Director’s Lounge, a comfortable bar featuring high quality food and signature cocktails to enjoy dinner and/or drinks before or after the movie, or just to stop by to meet friends for lunch/dinner or an afternoon snack.
On opening night, cinema-goers will ascend an escalator taking them into an impressive and spacious foyer with lush décor featured throughout the cinema, and six auditoria, including two Director’s Halls.
A further escalator ascends into the second floor, which houses the remaining six auditoria, one of which has over 500 seats and will be the biggest cinema auditorium in the East Midlands.
Showcase Cinema De Lux is a key tenant within the Westfield Derby shopping centre.
